Longridge 2005

Tragic!  Ted went to Longridge for a visit on August Bank Holiday Monday. It still occupies a great position on the river, in beautiful surroundings but it is in trouble.

The place was almost deserted, no scouts just a few school youth groups around doing canoe courses. None of the old gigs left, ok it was 30 years ago, only 1 glass fibre gig at the jetty.

I now find from the web that it is in serious trouble and under threat of closure. I hope the new consortium can raise the cash to save this really valuable resource from the short-sighted approach of the Scout Movement.

I thought that promoting physical activity in school aged children was a key government objective. So where is the grant from central Government? Where is the Lottery Funding?

I'll send a tenner as soon as I can and will try to think of a sponsorship type of event to raise some money. Any help from other Longridge veterans would be welcome.
