Casa Rio Vera
Almeria
A report from Joe and Karen written after their visit in March
2007
About an hour
and a 75km easy drive from Almeria Airport is the pretty port
village of Villaricos and another couple of miles away is Casa
Rio Vera set off the road in a peaceful setting of hills and
farm land. It’s easy to get to Villaricos but I doubt you’ll
find Casa Rio Vera unless you’ve been there before which made us
all the more grateful that the owners Simon and Maggie had
arranged to meet us and guide us in.
Casa Rio Vera
is a renovated farm complex comprising of 4 properties, the
owners home and 3 rental apartments, set in a single storey
bungalow style
.
The complex is
in a peaceful working farm environment to the front and rugged
hills hiding former mine works to the rear (great for naturist
walking). The property has its own website
http://www.casariovera.net/ which gives you all the
information you need to know.
Simon and
Maggie guided us to our holiday home and as it was gone 2230hrs
when we arrived even invited us to share their evening meal a
sign of the wonderful attention and stay we were to have in the
next 10 days. There was a more than adequate welcome pack
beautifully presented in a basket with a pretty bow and
personalised to us by name. Fresh flowers were on the table and
a fresh home made loaf made us more than happy not to impose
ourselves on our hosts offer-the thought of quaffing the wine
(also part of the welcome pack) played its part.
The room has
all you need for a holiday stay including hair dryer towels both
beach and shower use TV-DVD-Sky, heaters you name it it’s there
everything thoughtfully provided. All 3 apartments are similarly
spec’d. Nothing seems to be overlooked to make your stay as
comfortable and stress free as possible.

Our hosts
proved to be the friendliest helpful couple you could wish to
meet and felt like old friends from the word go nothing was too
much trouble and we mixed well sharing tea/coffee and cakes etc
on an almost daily basis, going out for evening meals and even a
BBQ with their friends. You could of course just be alone if you
wished nothing was imposed on you.

There are
villages and towns within easy driving distance, a car is
essential, and local markets are in villages every day. Shopping
is easy and supermarkets are also readily available although
closed on Sunday whilst we were there as it was still out of
season
.

Casa Rio Vera
is set far from the road and with a back drop of hills, the
local farmer workers are far enough away to allow you to be nude
at any time within the complex area and beyond providing you
respect the workers right not to have to see you nude, just
cover up for the 30 seconds or so it takes to pass any should
you venture near their homes. The local goat herder and farmer
drop by to chat so spruce up your Spanish. There is so much
secluded walking around the complex that there really is no need
to worry about meeting other people. We had a 3-4 hour walk in
the hills taking a picnic exploring the abandoned mine buildings
and rugged hills we never met a soul/
To the Buns the
best recommendation is when some one says they will go back.
"We certainly will,
because of the hosts and location in the peaceful unspoilt
countryside we love." Joe and Karen
