Ording-Nordstrand, aka Ording-Nord” or “Badestelle FKK”.  is a section of white, wide, sandy beaches in the town of St. Peter (www.st.peter-ording-nordsee.de), approximately 140km North-West of Hamburg is home to one of Northern Germany’s best nude beaches. St. Peter-Ording sports a very high number of sunny days in the Northern European summer.

Nude bathing has been permitted in St. Peter-Ording since 1866 and this makes it one of Germany’s, if not Europe’s, most historic nude locations. Nowadays, nude bathing possibilities are “limited” to Ording, St. Peter’s most northerly stretch of beach.

Although there is a designated bathing area with wicker beach baskets in Ording, the reality is that the sand banks to the North of the nudist area are so large and empty – approximately 6km in length – that you can walk for miles in both directions to get that true, all-over tan. Many users bring their own shell wind-protectors and find their favorite spot, either close to the crowds or in a more remote location.

Ording-Nord offers the following:

Wicker baskets on the sand and on raised pedestals (for those of you who don’t like sand!) showers, life-guards, on-beach parking for bicyles and cars (approximately €5 per car/day), a children’s play area and café/restaurant on stilts with a snackbar (both in the neighboring textile zone), as well as a children’s play area. In high season, there are even activities organized for the children on the beach, as well as on-beach fitness classes. Between the textile and nudist areas on the beach, there is a also a large kite-beach and surf school.

Regardless of where you end up at Ording, the clientèle is a pleasant, easy-going mix – lots of families, mixed age-groups and every imaginable gender combination.

How to book a wicker beach basket in advance:

www.st.peter-ording-nordsee.de/strandkoerbe.html approximately €40 per week/€8 per day  – advance booking  is strongly recommended during high season, when many of the residents of Hamburg descend on their weekend homes in St. Peter and fill the beach.

If the weather is mixed and prevents on-beach nudity, why not head to the Sankt Peter-Ording Dünen-Therme (www.st.peter-ording-nordsee.de/saunalandschaft.html), the thermal spa in town, offering an outdoor sauna garden with saunas on stilts from which you have excellent views out towards the beach and sea. On the last Friday of every month, the Dünen-Therme opens all areas of the spa for nude-bathing until 1am.
